Open Water Diver

DIVING REQUIREMENTS

This program teaches you all the fundamentals of scuba diving, including dive equipment and techniques. You will complete a number of theory sessions accompanied by the hands on training in the pool. Once you are competent and confident in the pool skills you will then take them out to the open water.

  • Your first two sea dives, which will be in shallow water in Pilot bay, should the weather be unsuitable a lake dive will be arranged. Your last two, and most enjoyable, dives will be at sea around either Motiti or Karewa, completed from the Pacific Runner, this is weather dependent. After completing the course your data is sent to Australia and after 7-10 days you will receive your PADI Open Water Certification card, which is recognized in 175 countries around the world. YOU ARE NOW A CERTIFIED DIVER – the vast ocean and all its magic and hidden treasures are yours for the seeking!
  • The recommended way to study is to read one module in your manual, and then do the knowledge review on the enclosed forms. If you have any problems please contact me on the above phone numbers. In our classroom, on Monday nights we will watch the current module on video and then go over your reviews with you and answer any queries. Wednesday nights you will be in the pool practicing your skills.
  • If required a last evening may be arranged to discuss the course, any problems you may still be having, and to sit the multi choice exam.
  • GEAR REQUIREMENTS
    -It is recommended that you have your own snorkel, mask and fins
    -In NZ waters boots are usually required with open heel fins

The cost of the course includes everything you will need, including all equipment, pool dives, 4 open water dives (including boat diving, weather permitting), classroom sessions and PADI certification. The only extra is for a dive medical which we can help organise. The medical is required before any in-water activities (including pool), therefore needs to be completed (by a doctor and yourself), returned to us on the first night. Advanced Open Water Diver

DIVING REQUIREMENTS
· The course may be run in two ways:

o Over two-three days where you arrive at the shop in the morning and go diving

o Over a weekend where we do a trip on the Pacific Runner on one/two of the days, dependent on weather. ·

Your instructor, will be taking you on your underwater adventures. · The first dive that you will experience is the DEEP dive, where we take you beyond the depths that you have encountered in your open water training. The second dive is the NAVIGATION dive, where you navigate your way around a fun underwater skills course. The third, fourth and fifth dives are for you to choose, from the list below:

o Night Dive o Naturalist Dive o Search and Recovery o Wreck Dive
o Boat Dive o Buoyancy o Underwater Hunter  

There are knowledge reviews in the manual that must be completed by the conclusion of this course. · There is NO EXAM! · On completion of the course requirements, our experienced instructor will send your completed data to Australia where it will be processed and within 2 weeks, you will be certified as a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver!

Rescue Diver

DIVING REQUIREMENTS:

-The PADI Rescue Diver course is an important and crucial step in expanding a diver’s knowledge and experience beyond a purely recreational level. Rescue divers learn to look beyond themselves to consider the safety and well-being of other divers. This is why the PADI Rescue Diver rating is a prerequisite for all PADI leadership training (Divemaster, Assistant Instructor and Open Water Instructor).


Rescue diver training readies you to help prevent problems and, if necessary, manage dive emergencies using a variety of techniques. The course is designed to be demanding, though realistic in it’s conduct, content and approach. Although the nature and context in which rescue training may be used is serious, the course is fun and will help build diver confidence.


There are knowledge reviews in the manual that must be completed by the conclusion of this
course. There is also an exam with a 75% pass mark to complete before certification.

Then on completion of all course requirements, our experienced instructor will send your
completed data to Australia where it will be processed and within 2 weeks you will be certified as
a PADI Rescue Diver.

Dive Master

COURSE PREREQUISITES Be a minimum of 18 years of age, and have a current diving medical.You must have already completed a PADI Rescue diver or equivalent certification including CPR Training.

DIVING REQUIREMENTS:

-The PADI Divemaster course may be run either on a part time basis over 6-8 weeks or as a full time course over 2-3 weeks. As a Divemaster you are obtaining the first professional level in Recreational diving and will gain experience in supervising students, Dive logistics, guiding certified divers and much more. You will also expand on your problem solving skills learnt on the Padi Rescue course and extend from accident management and prevention scenarios to supervisory situations with student divers and certified divers. At the Divemaster level, problem solving emphasises looking for many possible solutions under the circumstances and choosing the best of several. As a PADI Divemaster you will have: Exemplary diving skills - The PADI Divemaster skills can be used as demonstrations for student divers, from the standard 18 skills you will gain a mark of no less than 3 out of 5 with a total of 63. Rescue Skills - The PADI Divemaster can prevent and manage accidents, and role model rescue skills for student divers. Professional level knowledge of dive theory - The PADI Divemaster knowledge development module consists of 12 topics including The role and characteristics of a PADI Divemaster, Supervising general diving activities for certified divers, assisting with student divers in training, physics, physiology, equipment, decompression theory and dive tables, Divemaster conducted programmes, Risk management, Business of diving and furthering your dive career. Competence as a certified assist - PADI Divemasters know how to support instruction by handling logistical, supervisory and limited educational duties under an instructors supervision. Dive Management and supervision abilities - PADI Divemasters accept appropriate, limited responsibility for certified divers within the context of leading or managing diving activities. Watermanship skills - There are four exercises that evaluate stamina and water skills these are 400metre swim - 15min tread - 800metre snorkel - 100metre tired diver tow.

These skills are marked 1-5 you will be able to obtain a pass mark of 12 from the combined 4 skills.

As part of your PADI Divemaster course you will be working with one of our experienced Instructors and
will have the opportunity to work with actual students in a real class situation.

By the end of your Divemaster course you must have 60 logged dives
but you may start your course with 40 logged dives.

Once you have successfully completed all portions of the Divemaster course we will send an application into
PADI and you will become a member of the PADI organisation.
As a member of PADI you will receive regular updates and the Undersea journal (PADI's own publication)
and access to the professional section of the PADI web Site for information on employment in over 5000
stores in 175 countries and access to Dive Insurance at affordable prices.

Altitude Diver

Having completed your open water training, you now look forward to diving in different locations, including many altitude locations. During the altitude diving specialty course you will learn about the differences in diving at altitude and also the safety aspects of this exciting specialty. Also included in this course are two dives in fabulous lake Rotoma. Its clear water is the perfect place to put into practice what you have learned in the classroom. The PADI Altitude Diving Specialty Course is the starting point for diving in many exciting dive locations. You will be happy that you did this course.

CLASSROOM:

-Enable you to plan and organise altitude dives safely.

-Two open water dives in lake Rotoma

DIVES:
During this course you will also participate in two altitude dives in fabulous lake Rotoma.
This lake has clear water and interesting aquatic life, so it makes an awesome training site
Equipment -In addition to standard dive gear, you will also need a copy of the altitude
diving tables.

The PADI Altitude Diving specialty course is designed to introduce you to safe diving
practices at altitude and also to teach you to plan safe dives at altitude.

Boat Diver

Having completed your open water training, you now look forward to furthering your education in diving, including learning about the boats we dive from. In the classroom you will learn about the characteristics of the vessels you will dive from. Then as part of this specialty, you will participate in two open water dives, where you will put what you have learned into practice. These dives could be aboard either Positive Dream, a 33 foot launch OR Pacific Runner, a 6 metre Maitland fast catamaran. These dives will be at one of the Bay of Plentys’ great diving locations. The PADI Boat Diving Specialty is one not to be missed. A fun filled specialty course awaits you.


COURSE OVERVIEW:
CLASSROOM -
-Theory lessons provide a working knowledge of dive boats & safety regulations.
-Two open water dives from our dive boats put skills into practice that you have learned
in the classroom

PREREQUISITES:
-You must be over 12 years of age
-PADI Open Water diver or equivalent
-Have an up to date medical (within last 12 months)

COURSE DURATION:
-One theory session
-Two open water dives
(May both be combined over one day)

DIVES:
-In this course you will participate in two training dives from either of our fantastic dive
boats where you will be able to put the classroom lessons into practice
Equipment- Standard diving gear.

The Boat diver Specialty course is designed to orientate divers in the use and the
characteristics of the dive boats that they will use as divers. As well as the safety theory
behind dive boat operation.

Deep Diver

During the PADI Deep Diver specialty you will learn about the differences in aquatic life at depth and also about diving to depths up to 39.5 metres. you will also enjoy four open water training dives, that may include trips to Mayor islands’ fabulous reefs or Motiti islands’ many interesting dive locations. You will be amazed by the differences in aquatic life as you descend. The PADI Deep Diver specialty course is an experience not to be missed.

-Develop your theoretical knowledge of deep diving
-Enable you to plan, organise, and make dives to depths between 18 metres and 39.5
metres.

OPEN WATER
-You will participate in Four open water dives over two days at some of the Bay of
Plentys’ top diving locations

Equipment- Standard diving gear.

The PADI Deep Diving specialty course is designed to introduce you to diving to
greater depths than open water diver courses allow you to go.

Diver Propulsion Vehicle

The PADI Diver Propulsion Vehicle specialty course. Now that you have completed your water training, you now look for ways to move around under water with less effort. One way of doing this is by using diver propulsion vehicles. In this specialty you will learn a lot and it is a lot of fun.

- You must hold a PADI Open Water Diver or equivalent
- You must also be a minimum of 12 years of age

DURATION:
-One Classroom session
-Two Open water sessions
All three are done on the same day

CLASSROOM:
-Demonstrate a practical knowledge and planning procedures that make DPV diving fun
-Plan and organise dives to use DPV in open water
-Identify the hazards of DPV diving and the procedures to minimise them.

DIVES:
-You will participate in two open water dives where you will use diver propulsion
vehicles as you have learned in the classroom.
Equipment- You must have access to a DPV for this course

The PADI Diver Propulsion Vehicle Specialty course is designed so that you can learn to
safely use the vehicles underwater so you can move around the under water environment
with less effort.

-You will participate in two exciting drift dives down the Waikato river where you will be
amazed at the scenery as it goes whizzing past. You will put into practice what you have
learned in the classroom.

The PADI Drift Diving Specialty program is designed to introduce you to the action and
thrills of drift diving by teaching you and then putting into practice safe drift diving
practices.

The course runs over two days

-You will learn the fundamentals of enriched air diving
-Learn the physics and physiology of diving on enriched air
-You will sit a twenty question written exam on what you have learned in the classroom

DIVES:
-You will participate in two open water dives that will be conducted at one of the Bay of Plentys’ top diving
locations where you will put into practice what you have learned in the classroom.

Equipment-In addition to standard equipment you must have copies of the enriched air
tables.

The PADI Enriched Air Specialty course is designed to teach you how to safely dive with
enriched air, which means you can increase your bottom time on dives, so that you can
enjoy staying longer in the under water environment.

Having completed your open water training, you now look forward to furthering your experiences in the underwater environment. The Multilevel diver specialty course gives you the edge over other divers, allowing longer time under the water. You will learn about the logistics and safety of multilevel diving. -One class room session
-Two open water dives
These will be done over one day

CLASSROOM
-Develop your knowledge and familiarity with aquatic plants & animals
-Dispel myths about potentially dangerous aquatic life
-Develop your knowledge of safely interacting with aquatic life

DIVES
-The two open water dives in this course will be
conducted at one of the Bay of Plentys’ many top diving locations,
where you will be able to identify the aquatic life that you encounter.

This course is designed so that you can continue your diving adventure after dark. To complete this course you must be over 12 years of age & be a PADI open water diver or equivalent. This course is something you can add to your experiences as an open water diver. You will learn the principles behind taking a good under water photograph as well as equipment and maintenance. The PADI Under Water Photographer course is an exciting experience you will be happy you did this course when your photographs are developed.

-You will learn about aquatic life and how to protect it

put what you have learned in the classroom into practice in the open water environment.
These dives will be at one of the Bay of Plentys’ many top diving locations.

The PADI Project aware specialty is designed so that you as a diver can learn more about
the under water environment that you visit. It also increases your understanding of the
aquatic life that lives in the areas that you will dive and how to protect the areas that we
dive from damage.

Search and Recovery

To participate in this course you must have already completed a PADI advanced open water course or a Navigation specialty or equivalent and must be at least 12 years of age.This course is designed to show you the principles of search and recovery. You will also learn why and what you should recover as a diver. You will also participate in four open water training dives for various items and use acquired equipment knowledge to raise them to the surface. The PADI Search and Recovery specialty course is a practical and exciting course. You will be happy that you did this course.

Underwater Videography

As a continuation of your open water training, you can now look forward to increasing your experiences and knowledge in diving and the underwater environment. The PADI Under Water Videographer specialty course is a fun and interesting course, you will be happy you did this one.


COURSE OVERVIEW
PREREQUISITES:
-Must be 12 years of age or older
-Must be a PADI Open Water Diver or Equivalent

DURATION:
-One classroom session
-Two open water sessions
Both over one day

CLASSROOM:
-You will learn about the principles behind videography
-You will learn how to make safe dives while using an under water video camera
-You will also learn the basic principles of maintaining an under water video camera

DIVES
-You will participate in two open water dives at one of the Bay of Plentys’ top diving
locations, where you will put into practice what you have learned in the classroom. v Equipment-You must also have, in addition to standard diving equipment, access to an
underwater video camera.

The PADI Under Water Videographer specialty course is designed so that you can learn
about filming under water, so you can take home souvenirs of your dives without
damaging delicate aquatic life.

Wreck Diver

Having completed your Advanced certification, you must also be 15 years of age or older to participate in this course. This course teaches you the principles and safety outlines regarding wreck diving. Also you will be participating in four training dives over two days, that may include dives on the fabulous wrecks of the Taioma and the Taupo, where you will be amazed by the new things you will experience. The PADI Wreck Diving Specialty course is one not to be missed. You will enjoy the excitement of wreck diving.

guideline for work inside the wrecks

The PADI Wreck diving Specialty is designed to introduce you to the adventure of wreck
diving, in a safe way so that you can carry on and continue wreck diving after you have
finished the course.

Cavern Diver

Why PADI Cavern Diver?

If you dive within the light zone of a cave, the area near the cave entrance where natural light is always visibly, you're cavern diving. If you want to explore secrets hidden in caverns around the world you'll need your PADI Cavern Diver certification.

What do I need to start?

PADI Advanced Open Water Diver certification Minimum age: 18 years old What will I do? During your first open water dive you'll practice line handling, reel use and emergency procedures without entering a cavern. But, for your next three dives, you're headed into the cavern, staying within the light zone and 40 metres/130 feet total distance of the surface. You'll also cover the following: Planning, organization, techniques, problems and hazards of cavern diving. Special equipment use, such as lights, guidelines, reels and redundant breathing systems. Proper body position, buoyancy control, air management and emergency procedures. Cavern diving hazards such as silting, line problems, disorientation and emergencies.

Recommended Course Hours: 24 Minimum Open Water Training: four dives over two days
